SOVEREIGN GRAND COMMANDER ATTENDS 100TH ANNIVERSARIES
Ill. John Wm McNaughton, 33 Sovereign Grand Commander attended the 100th Anniversary of two Valleys this past November. The New Castle Lodge of Perfection in New Castle, PA celebrated their 100th on November 6th and the Valley of Oil City, Venango Lodge of Perfection in Oil City celebrated theirs on November 7, 2009. While attending the Anniversary celebrations, the Sovereign Grand Commander was taken on a tour of the Drake Well Park in Titusville, PA. where the first Oil Well was drilled by Bro. Col. Edwin L Drake on August 27, 1859. A Celebration was held in Titusville during 2009 for the 150th Anniversary of the discovery of Oil at Titusville. The Sovereign Grand Commander was taken on the tour by Bro. John W.(Augie) Holtz, 32º, Member of the New Castle Lodge of Perfection, and Bro. Gregory D. Knox, 32º, Ill. Charles R. Terwilliger, 33º, and Ill. Howard B. Dittman, 33º members of the Venango Lodge of Perfection, Valley of Oil City. In the attached Photo the Sovereign Grand Commander is shown with Bro. Holtz and Bro. Knox, and Ill. Charles Terwilliger. Standing in front of a Reid Engine that had been manufactured in Oil City Pa in the early 1900’s and used for powering the pumps that moved the oil through the oil line from the wells to the refineries.
